Who can enter into Matrimony?
- each spouse must be married without any impediments
- if one spouse is not baptized, they may still be married, however it is not the sacrament of Holy Matrimony
- this is called natural marriage
How many times can someone enter into the sacrament?
- once and to one spouse as long as that spouse is living
- if one spouse dies, the other spouse may validly remarry
Effects of Holy Matrimony:
- the two become "one-flesh"
- perpetual and exclusive covenant partnership
- free, fruitful, faithful and total nuptial love
